My Audience

I have decided my target audience and type of radio show i am going to make, which i hope to attract 14-25 year olds. This is a large age group but i believe these age's having similar interests e.g. sport, celebrities and the most important chart/upcoming music. This radio show should interest both genders as both are interested in new music and celebtities etc.

Target Audience

Before I make my radio show, I will need to think about the target audience I will be looking to attract to my show. Therefore I will need to chose my audience carefully and I will need to think about the jingle, music played, conversation and the guest. These will all have to be suitable for my selected chosen target audience and their age, gender, demogrpahic and socio-economic group even though this is not a great factor as the radio is free to listen to.

The Opening Jingle - This is used as an introduction to the show and will need to be lively with the jingle relating to the type of genre you will be playing e.g. you would not want to hear a upbeat jingle if it was a classical musical radio show. It will need to have a bang or something that is different, reconizable and bold, e.g. a siren to show the show is able to start so the listeners are able to ascoiate this siren with your show.

The Presenter - The presenter needs to have a good knowledge of the music industry and life, he will need to be able to show off his musical knowledge and also be able to relate to listeners and not be different as many people will not listen if the presenter is unable to relate to his viewers. He needs to have a clear and well prounouced voice that can be easily related to him so listeners are able to know who the Dj is from the sound of his voice when they turn on the radio. The gender and their interests will also need to be considered with his target audience for example you would not want a women talking on a football show if they had no interest in the sport.

The Content - The content is very important and much of the time seemed not important but with content radio wouldn't be the same with just track after track being played for listeners. Music and conversation on a radio needs to be thourght about compared to it's target audience and the conversation/guests and music all need to be relative to the audience e.g. playing classical music, with a rock band guests and talking about sport would not be a good radio show as there is not a clear target audience and only one of them specific topics might suit you.

Radio Jingle 1 - Chris Moyles Show

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00gq57r/The_Chris_Moyles_Show_19_01_2009/

This radio jingle starts of very quietly with a little sounds of thrumpets and a and then goes into a quiet drum beat, this is palyed nice and slow at the beggining and it is perfect for a morning show as you can imagine waking up to the jingle as it is very peaceful and relaxing.
The words in the jingle are all used to effect on the day and what is happening in the world, and the time of day it is, it mentions the day and why it is the worst day of the week due it being the begining of the week where know one likes to wake up. It also mentions the type of weather we are having and in this case cold and wet mornings, so as you can see as well as the jingle working well together the words are also very relative to when the show is being played.

The jingle is also played in the background while the presenter introduces himself and his team mates they all get involved in a convesation so we are able to get an understanding of what type of people they are and there personality, dislikes and likes etc.

It is a very long jingle but this is due to the show being played very early in the morning and if you are a regular listener it is a great jingle to wake up to very early in the morning. It alllow you to wake up to it with out getting annoyed or frustrated, like many other stations that think a more loud jingle will help wake people but infact people prefer quieter jingles.

Radio Jingle 2 - Radio 5 Live, 606

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00gqy15/606_18_01_2009/

This seen as a talking show where listeners are able to call in and talk about their views and thourghts with what is happening, in this case it is a sports station mainly football, after the days action.

The jingle starts off with previous viewers calls and views on previous events and a call noise starts it off and is soonly followed by a crowd noise which is played quietly in the background over the previous viewers calls. Also commentary from a game played from that day to encourage viewers to call in and give their thourghts on that game, goal or other matches. The commentary and crowd noises are played over a song which is well know and as the jingle gets more played the music gets louder and stops when the presenter starts talking.

They also encourage you to take part in the show and mention the show being their's so they feel more involved and more likely to call in. They then post a number of questions that you could call in about and give your views on them points.

We also get to know who the presenters are and in this case we hear two people a man who asks many of the questions with the women reporting people views from the e-mails and telling viewers the details to get in touch with the station.

Radio Jingle 3 -BBC Asian, Friction

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00gq0fz/Friction_16_01_2009/

The jingle to this clip we get a clear understaning that this show is for a very specific audience (niche) in this case asians and also is targeting the young asians as their is a strong beat and modern sound to the music, with computer sounds used and echoing. They use words such as brap and stuttering on words to make them sound better e.g. cccccheck it outttt.

The jingle explains the show and the type of music played, this show is for the new upbeat asian music comming through the UK at the moment, there are two presenters. There is a man who is the main presenter but he is helped by a women who gives out the details about the show such as e-mail, phone number and give the viewer of an insight of what to expect from the show also stating the show could voice some bad language.
