RADIO JINGLE

It's on Mac 6, Payn 2

Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My jingle is very similar to other media products as it is very catchy which is the main point of an introduction jingle to catch the audiences attention and make them want to listen to the program. The jingle needs to be happy and jolly to welcome the viewers and needs to be memorable so the viewer is singing it or humming it to get it stuck in their head. If this is not successfully done the audience will be more likely to get bored and change station or switch of the radio if it is boring, not catchy or suits the radio show. My product has successfully challenged the forms and conventions of a radio jingle as itr is catchy, interesting and clear and easy to listen to.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My radio jingle has a particular social group and age group. The show is for young viewers as it is all upcoming new music and chart music so this is aimed at the youth of the nation which is mainly all social groups as it is mainly based on age but not all social groups as not all people have the same taste in music. There are a number of radio shows that play chart music but not much play up and coming music and are specific for young teenagers so hopefully by being a bit different it will be very successfully.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
My show is mainly based at teenagers and young men who are either currently at school, university or new comers to work. The music will be chart and new upcoming music which is always very popular with the youth of the nation, as many are music listeners and go out and buy the CD’s and download songs that help make the chart. The interviews are mainly celebrities which are always popular with young people as they are seen as role models and idols for them. In this case it is a comedian who is very funny which teenagers and young men like as they enjoy jokes and a laugh the jokes. This comedian may not be liked by all ages as some jokes could cause some offense but not my targeted audience.

Who would be the audience for your media product?
My target audience will be all classes ABC1 C2DF but their will be a division in age’s and the main listeners will be teenagers and young men. 15-28 is what I consider to be the target audience as when getting older than 28 you begin to not like the new music and prefer listening to other station for music played in their own youth.

How did you attract/address your audience?
I attracted my audience, by playing a upbeat jingle which is jolly and exiting. This is similar to the type of music playing so the audience will be able to get an understanding from the jingle the type of music genre that will be played on the show. Also celebrities are often in the studio which will encourage people to listen to hear their heroes and role models.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learnt a lot from this project as I have never used garage band the program I used so I have learnt and understood a whole new program. The program is easy to use and easy to learn and grasp quickly for people that have not used it before but also it has a number of tools that can be used for advanced users of the program so it is for all. Also I am not very musical so I have got a better understanding of music and the types of conventions that need to be used to make a successful radio show. I started of slow with the making of my project but now I have completed it I found it not to difficult to make and edit and really enjoyed it and learnt a number of things from the project.

Garage Band

For this project i have used GarageBand which is a new and popular music program which is used by big bands around the world such as Oasis. Being able to use and understand GargageBand has enables me to complete my radio jingle in a very classy way and i believe to have produced something far better than i would have expected due to me never using the program before and not being musically talented.

Garage band has a number of features that have helped me to complete a successful radio jingle for example it has seperate tracks for each insturment, already made sound clips such as laughing and applause that i have used and much more like piano clips etc. The program even allows you to play the piano with the use of the keyboard which is great if you are a musican.

This is what garage band looks like when opened here we can see no instruments have been selected apart from the piano and no editing or volume control has begun. At the bottom of the screen it enables you to play, pause fast forward etc your music. It also shows the time of your track has been playing, which will come in handy at the end to show how long your jingle, speaking and archive clip.

Here is some of the music already on the software, this enables you to look and listen to types of genre's and instruments that could fit in with your jingle. You are able to search through a large range of instruments and also the type of genre the musical instruments are such as classical, cultural, world etc. There is a large amount of music already on the software and also their are different length to instruments such as a piano being played for 5 secs, 20 secs or 40 which enables you to have a large say in what one to pick and then also you can edit the clip so you can pick out a specific bit or shorten the clip etc.

This is the music tracks that you can pick which then allows you to play that instrument your self or have the same effect as the instrument or give it a special effect such as radio preseter.
Also here there are affects that can affect the tone of the instrument or voice, the layer and the volume etc.

Planning

In my audi project i will be making an introduction to a radio jingle for the beggining of a show, which will involve a guest in my show i will be interviweing Evan Carr Britain's Best Comedian. The jingle will need to last for at least 15 seconds which will need to be followed by the presenter and the guest in the studio whihc will also need to last for at least 15 seconds. An archive clip will have to be involved as it is part of the task and for this i will play jokes and clips from the comedians live show last night, these clips should last for around 5-10 seconds.
Overall the sound clip should last longer than 45 seconds and be successfull in all these areas and the radio jingle should all fit together well, and all relate to one type of specific audience and type of music genre.

My Audience

I have decided my target audience and type of radio show i am going to make, which i hope to attract 14-25 year olds. This is a large age group but i believe these age's having similar interests e.g. sport, celebrities and the most important chart/upcoming music. This radio show should interest both genders as both are interested in new music and celebtities etc.

Target Audience

Before I make my radio show, I will need to think about the target audience I will be looking to attract to my show. Therefore I will need to chose my audience carefully and I will need to think about the jingle, music played, conversation and the guest. These will all have to be suitable for my selected chosen target audience and their age, gender, demogrpahic and socio-economic group even though this is not a great factor as the radio is free to listen to.

The Opening Jingle - This is used as an introduction to the show and will need to be lively with the jingle relating to the type of genre you will be playing e.g. you would not want to hear a upbeat jingle if it was a classical musical radio show. It will need to have a bang or something that is different, reconizable and bold, e.g. a siren to show the show is able to start so the listeners are able to ascoiate this siren with your show.

The Presenter - The presenter needs to have a good knowledge of the music industry and life, he will need to be able to show off his musical knowledge and also be able to relate to listeners and not be different as many people will not listen if the presenter is unable to relate to his viewers. He needs to have a clear and well prounouced voice that can be easily related to him so listeners are able to know who the Dj is from the sound of his voice when they turn on the radio. The gender and their interests will also need to be considered with his target audience for example you would not want a women talking on a football show if they had no interest in the sport.

The Content - The content is very important and much of the time seemed not important but with content radio wouldn't be the same with just track after track being played for listeners. Music and conversation on a radio needs to be thourght about compared to it's target audience and the conversation/guests and music all need to be relative to the audience e.g. playing classical music, with a rock band guests and talking about sport would not be a good radio show as there is not a clear target audience and only one of them specific topics might suit you.
